I realise that it's essential to have a great variaty of products to work with, as I'm brainstorming for ideas for photoshoots. All the ideas in my head are all blurry now, because the things I already have in my make up closet are not always the same as the ideas in my head. It's chaotic, even when I'm writing it down. I guess I have to go with the flow when I'm working anyways.

One of my hobby's is to be a hobby model, and I often shoot pictures on 'tfp' (time for print) base. I hope I will be able to work with some models in the same way. That will be me doing make up for free, they will model for free and the photographer will make pictures for free, that we can all use. The thing is, because the ideas in my head are so fuzzy, I have no idea if I can work something out that everyone will agree on. Because I will be the one organising the photoshoots, I want to have control of the situation, which can be frustrating for the model and photographer. I actually need a model who just needs 'some shots', and a photographer who wants to shoot 'some shots', and see how it works out. Or I need to model myself, I don't want people to have other expectations of me and be frustrated with the results.

I guess it's just my uncertainty speaking for me at this point, but I'm honestly frustrated and confused about how I should do this. I'm lucky with a roommate who wants to make some pictures with me (I will practise the basics on myself of course), but I also want to do some experimenting, on other people. My head is full of ideas, but when I explain them to the models and photographers, it might become something different then they expect... I guess that's something I need to tell them and that they have to agree on, else I'm limiting my creativity, and that's something I want to avoid.

Sorry for the ramble - but as you can see, I'm still trying to find my way in this. I want the world, but have to see that I have to start with something small. I hope I'll be able to post some results here too, especially because I have the time for it now! Hope to do so soon, will keep you guys updated :)

The beginning

Here I am, starting on a new journey which I never expected to make until a few months ago.

I've always been interested in make up - from the time that I was a little child until now. I remember being so excited when I could finally try on some make up, and my mom allowed me to use some of hers. My mother warned me to not go too far with it, so I kept it modest. I fell in love with make up right away, just like any other girl would. I loved going a little further with my looks when I would attend a party or when I just felt like it – but that was just once in a while.

I started experimenting with make up when I started with my hobby of costume design. I would design a costume for a so called ‘fantasy fair’, where visitors dress up like fantasy creatures – some more extreme then others. I was finally able to express myself through my costume, but also through my make up. I started watching make up videos online for inspiration, and quickly became addicted to watching them. Now I’m following multiple make up artists online, have a nice closet full of make up and realised that make up is one of my many passions.

The idea of becoming a make up artist just came into my mind recently. The desire has always been there: I know that I wanted to do something with ‘creating’, expressing my creativity, I wanted to have variety in my job, I wanted to have contact with many different people in my job and overall: I’ve always wanted to start up my own company. While I’m still busy with ending my study of Cultural heritage at the High School of Arts in Amsterdam, I realise that I chose the wrong path for my future. I made a mistake. I have been searching for what I wanted for so long, and now I finally found it – or so I hope.

Starting from Monday the 13th of February, I’ll start with the professional make up artist education at a self teaching school. This education will take a year in total and I intend to learn as much as I can in this period of time. I hope to create a strong portfolio that will help me make my dreams come true. This blog will be the book to my journey, and I hope I will be able to update regularly (since I have started tons of blogs that failed horribly), for I too would like to look back on this adventure and take some points of the past with me to the future.

So once again, here I am, ready to start this journey. Ready, set, go!
